The amount of content on the Web, both in public and access protected sites is increasing exponentially over time. This makes locating the relevant and useful information for a particular need correspondingly harder. More and more companies and Web sites realize the complexity of keeping up with the growth of their content base, and realize that an important aspect of handling the content is an efficient search solution.
Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) provides high-performance and scalable search solutions used by many of the leading companies in the world for both public (Web site) and internal (intranet) search applications.
In this talk we will look closer at the architecture behind a search solution scalable up to hundreds of terabytes of data, and some of the issues and challenges in designing and maintaining such systems.
Knut Omang received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Oslo in 1998. Both the Ph.D. work and subsequent work at Scali was on high speed interconnects and scalable cluster solutions based on such technologies.
Since 2001 he has been working for Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) on development of advanced relevance features. He is also an Assistant Processor at the University of Oslo.
