In contrast to the widely used techniques for text categorization
and information retrieval, the paper provides a new approach based
on the systemic functional theory to represent contents of textual
documents. This approach relies on the notion of the Theme-Rheme
which deals with structural aspects of texts. A fuzzy
representation of documents is developed and implemented by means
of cascade of two fuzzy neural networks. To evaluate this
approach, a prototype called SyRS was developed and several
experiments have been conducted.
