This master thesis is the result of the cooperation with the UBS AG in Switzerland. After the merger between the two largest Swiss banks (Schweizer Bankgesellschaft and Schweizer Bankverein), one of the biggest banks worldwide was formed. Both banks were running their own technical infrastructure. For building one common technical platform concerning their software environments, it was necessary to start large integration and consolidation programs. Naturally several kinds of Workflow Management Systems were part of these two different infrastructures and therefore same solutions must be found für consolidating these different workflow systems. One possible way für solving such kind of problems is the concept of a "Generic Workflow Worklist". The aim of this work was the development of the concept of the generic worklist and the implementation of a prototype based on a new JAVA based Client/Server technology, call "Universal Lightweight Client" (ULC). At present the ULC technology is still on a development level and will be supported and developed by IBM in future. The described solution provides a client-based consolidation of the proprietary workflow user interfaces. This means that all client applications are replaced with the Generic Workflow Worklist. The enduser has to work only with one generic client, which is able to communicate with different kinds of Workflow Management Systems. The master thesis describes and discusses the basic concept of the proposed Generic Workflow Client, its architecture and its implementation.
